LIFE’S FOUR BIGGEST QUESTIONS ARE:
1.where did I come from?
2.who am I?
3.why am I here?
4.where am I going?
1. where did I come from?
When asked this questioned it is surprising the responses you get. Some respond with, from a primate, others from some sort of insect or slime from the sea, some with a geographical location, some with their genealogical heritage, some even respond with evolution among others. (go to scriptureteaches.org, look under Pastors corner for “Creation VS Evelution Parts one and two). Most people have never answered these questions satisfactorily. Few, if any refer to their original inception. Let’s see what Scripture teaches.
- We will begin with “where did I come from?”
In eternity past only God existed. The Bible does not state an exact day or hour for when God created the angels, though scripture indicates they were created Before the Earth was made. In Job 38:4–7, God asks Job where he was when the foundations of the Earth were laid, noting that the "sons of God" (angels) shouted for joy and sang together. This shows they already existed when the material world was formed. It was shortly after this time that the Father spoke to the 2nd and 3rd persons of the Triune Godhead and said; "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 1:26-27
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (and from mans rib He made woman). So we see that God created a physical form for our/the beginning of man and women. God created a body for Adam and made a body for Eve.
Gen 2:7
Gen 2:21-22
God has been very much a part of human propagation since creation.
God spoke to Jeremiah saying; "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; and I ordained you a prophet to the nations."
Jeremiah 1:5
Human, Birth:
Conception and birth are a natural process and acts of God, the Creator of life. As Creator, God has a purpose for each of His creatures.
Gods Sovereignty:
God chose to exercise His sovereign authority over His world in a special way in Jeremiah's life. Before God placed Jeremiah in his mother's womb, God planned to use him as the instrument to announce God's world-changing word to the nations. God is free to act in individual lives and among nations as He chooses.
The Psalmist records; For You have formed my inward parts; You have covered me in my mother's womb.
Psalms 139:13
Created Persons:
Each person is a creative work of God. The physical processes in a mother's womb and in the process of birth do not fully explain the formation of a new person. God is involved in each instance, performing a new wonder. The newborn child does not have to face meaningless existence. The Creator has plans and purposes for the people He creates.
In the book of Isaiah we read; Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, and He who formed you from the womb: "I am the LORD, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself;
Isaiah 44:24
In Psalm 139:15-16, David was speaking to the Lord and saying, “You know all my parts and had them numbered before they were ever formed in my mother’s womb.”
Because Jesus is Spirit it was necessary for God the Father to “prepare a body for Him” so He could be physically tortured and crucified on the Cross for the sins of the world.
Heb 10:1-10
We were all known by God long before genealogy ever entered into the picture.
DNA Uniqueness:
All human beings are about 99.9% genetically identical, yet that remaining 0.1% accounts for millions of individual genetic differences.
This 0.1% difference accounts for your unique relationship to God. Even identical twins have distinct physical markers like fingerprints and iris patterns.
Although the most important question to your spiritual and emotional well-being is “who am I,” it’s one that cannot be answered until you are sure of your origin. The way you answer that question dictates how you determine who you are. Because of who you are will de determine how you live.
Scripture teaches that we all originated from God.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Genesis 2:7
Scripture teaches that every human being who has ever breathed has inherited an intuitive knowledge of the existence of God. It may not be clear, but it’s there. It is possible, however, to deny its existence. You can harden your heart to the point where you no longer feel any conviction or, even further, reach the point of becoming a reprobate (Romans 1:28-32), where God actually takes the knowledge of Himself away. An agnostic or an atheist is simply a person who has hardened their heart to that still small voice of God that operates like a homing device. But the Scripture says that inside of every person, there is a God-shaped vacuum.
Romans 1:18-20 says,
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”
If you will really meditate on these verses, you’ll learn that you don’t have to tell people that God hates their sin. You don’t have to tell them that God is holy and they are unholy, worthy of His judgment. The wrath of God has been revealed to every man and woman, and they are without excuse. That is why it’s so important to tell people about God’s unconditional love and grace. They already feel condemned; they need to know how to get set free.
Everyone knows there is a God! It is not possible to understand the universe we live in and deny the existents of God. That homing device that God placed on the inside of you is constantly sending signals; it’s a still small voice.
Psalm 46:10 says,
- “Be still, and know that I am God.”
This is literally talking about getting still before the Lord not only physically but mentally. Your ability to hear that voice is hindered when you’re listening to the radio, watching television, or entertaining yourself in some other way. Many people can’t stand to be still. They can’t stand to be in the house alone without some distraction. Why, because when they get still before the Lord, those three questions keep coming up: Where did I come from? who am I? where am I going?
I guarantee you that on the inside of every person, if they will admit it, there is the voice of God telling them of His existence. He is telling them that they are not the center of the universe, there has got to be something more important than serving themselves. That voice tells them there is someone bigger and more powerful than themselves and that they should be serving Him. The most miserable people I’ve ever met are the ones who think it’s all about them, loving themselves, serving themselves, and getting things for themselves. If they ever get quiet, the voice inside will begin to speak to them, and they will learn a very profound revelation. It’s simple but true: There is only one God and you’re not Him.
Once you realize you were created by God and that you weren’t an accident or just a biological creation, you must then ask who am I?
1.where did I come from?
We covered question #1 in the above study. Next study we will cover question #2
2.who am I?
4. what am I here for?
3.where am I going?
